With hearts filled with sorrow, but also with deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, the family of Nona Smith Johnson announces her passing. Nona was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, relative and friend whose life touched generations. Those who had the privilege of knowing her will remember not simply the years she lived, but the love she gave, the family she cherished, and the special place she held in the hearts of so many.

At the center of Nona's life was her family. She was the loving mother of Melinda Johnson Thomas and Joe Dee Johnson and his wife, Charlotte. Her family grew through the generations to include her grandchildren, Sean and his wife, Emily; Katlyn and Craig; and Garrett and his wife, Kari. Nona was also blessed with her treasured great-grandchildren, Sean Mason, Jameson, Jackson, Ava, Emma, and Sophia. Nona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe D Johnson; her parents, Preston and Josie Smith; her sisters, Fay Williams and Lillian Blanton Smith; her brothers, Preston Smith and R.T. Smith and her great-grandson, Finley Jackson Thomas.

Funeral arrangements for Nona are under the direction of Moore Funeral Home in Refugio, Texas. A celebration of Nona's life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, at her beloved church home, First Baptist Church of Refugio. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery on East Ward Street in Goliad. Following the brief graveside service, the family invites those in attendance to join them for a meal and a time of fellowship at the Goliad County Senior Center, 601 West Pearl Street, in Goliad.
