Gilberto R Mendez of Woodsboro was peacefully called home on Tuesday, October 6th, 2026 at the age of 78. He was surrounded by loved ones.

He was born November 29th ,1947 to the late Francisco and Maria Mendez. He is preceded in death by his parents;Brothers Oscar Mendez,Romeo Mendez, Johnny Joe Mendez, Robert Mendez,Jimmy Mendez, Frank Mendez, and sister Aurora Arzola.

Survivors including his wife of over 50 years Mary Helen Mendez;daughters Linda (Patrick) Rocha of Ingleside, Erlinda (Saul) Adame of Ingleside, Margarita (Angel) Rojas of Houston, Mary Helen (Ernesto) Perez of Cameron, Roberta (Dion) Montalvo of Philadelphia and Sarah (Santiago) Garcia of Woodsboro. Sons;Gilbert (Ana Lisa) Mendez of Sinton and John (Amanda) Mendez of Woodsboro . Sisters;Ninfa Escamilla of Ganado and Margaret Ortega of Woodsboro.

He worked many years in carpentry along side George Vega. He was a true and loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He leaves behind a legacy that will be passed on to his 33 grandchildren,105 great grandchildren and 73 great great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held for family.
